I need everyone's help right now. I'm working on my grad school application, and I have to pick four of my pieces to send a recording and score in for, so I can apply for the jazz composition track. I've only got one of them selected for sure, but I have two recordings of it. Chronology Post Episode III, after he has succeeded in both conquering the galaxy and eradicating the Jedi Order, with the help of his apprentice, Darth Vader. Construction of the Death Star is under way, and his military is swiftly bringing the galaxy under his complete control.

Background: From Palpatine's birth, it would be hard to figure out that he would soon become the most powerful being in the galaxy. He was born on the planet of Naboo, into the upper class. As all Naboo youth did, he was made to participate in early exercises in politics, before being elected to the planet's Senate as a senator. However, whether they weren't paying attention, or whether they chose to ignore it because of his political responsibilities, he was never confronted about his sensitivity to the Force by a Jedi - it was not until he met a Muun Sith Lord by the name of Darth Plagueis that he learned that he was sensitive to the Force.

For many years, Palpatine trained under Darth Plagueis, while at the same time keeping up his political career, becoming a long-serving member in Naboo's legislative body, eventually serving almost 40 years on the planet, while at the same time completing his apprenticeship with Darth Plagueis. It is not known exactly when he killed his master, but he had spent long enough time to learn everything he possibly could from Darth Plagueis, as well as train his own apprentice, Darth Maul. He murdered Darth Plagueis in his sleep, and the reign of Darth Sidious, Dark Lord of the Sith had officially begun.

It was not long after his ascension that his plans for galactic conquest were set into motion. After the suspicious death of Naboo's representative in the galactic Senate on Coruscant, he was appointed by the new Queen Amidala to take over the position. Despite his incredible ambition, he downplayed his own abilities, becoming the mild-mannered junior Senator, forming alliances with Senators from several systems for his seeming willingness to go along with any of their suggestions in exchange for their patronage.

He had suspected that Darth Plagueis had used his ability to create a child that would be the most powerful Force user to ever live, but he wasn't sure where the child was. While he sent out a few searches, both with Darth Maul and others he had convinced to work with him, it was not until his plan to conquer the galaxy completely had been put into motion that the child made himself known. Shortly following his manipulation of the Trade Federation into blockading Naboo, Anakin Skywalker was discovered on the planet of Tattooine, and Palpatine knew that he had found his future apprentice.

Palpatine sacrificed Darth Maul to Obi-Wan Kenobi's blade in order to get the opportunity to gain Anakin's trust and friendship. At the same time, he sent a plea to the Jedi Council as a Senator for Anakin to be trained as a Jedi, and after deliberation, his request was granted, and Anakin was put into the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi. As well, thanks to the crisis he engineered on Naboo, Senator Palpatine was elected the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, becoming the highest elected official in the galaxy.

Over the next 10 years, while Senator Palpatine cultivated his friendship with Anakin Skywalker, Darth Sidious took a new apprentice, Darth Tyranus, and pushed the disgruntled Trade Federation into separating from the Republic, and beginning a civil war. At the same time, he contacted the cloners on Kamino, commissioning a massive army of completely loyal soldiers, on the pretense it was at the request of a Jedi Master, and that they were for the Republic.

The Clone Wars, as they came to be called, raged across the entire galaxy, Chancellor Palpatine using them as an excuse to have his powers increased in the state of emergency, hiding from the Senate that he never intended to lay down the powers once the war was over. Using Darth Tyranus to keep the war going, he concentrated on Anakin Skywalker, using his secret marriage to Padme Amidala as a method to keep the boy under his wing.

Using the Force, he planted false visions in Anakin's mind, already strained from his seeming impatience at his slow progression in the Jedi Order, of Padme dying during childbirth, and it was Anakin's fear over losing his beloved wife that allowed Palpatine to reveal himself as Darth Sidious to Anakin, confident that the boy would be too afraid to lose Padme to allow the Jedi to destroy him. His faith was rewarded as Anakin defeated Mace Windu before he could deal the killing blow to Palpatine, and finally, Darth Sidious had the apprentice he wanted.

Using Mace Windu's attempted arrest of him as proof, he called a special session of the Senate to declare the Jedi to be traitors, and to announce the dissolution of the Republic, and the creation of a Galactic Empire. Most Senators, either weary of the fighting, or cowed into submission by Palpatine, lent their support, and so the Empire was born. The Jedi, labeled as traitors, were hunted down and killed by the clone soldiers, as well as Darth Vader, once he had been reconstructed from his duel against Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Galaxy under his complete control, his apprentice loyally serving at his side, and his new superweapon under construction, Palpatine is truly the complete ruler of the galaxy.

Personality: Palpatine is manipulative and seductive. His incredible skill of being able to dissect the personality of someone, and figure out the best way to turn them to his cause, is one of his greatest strengths. He maintains a mostly pleasant demeanor when speaking with his subordinates, but that is merely a pretense. Palpatine is no less than pure, unadulterated evil. His temper is nearly limitless when he is angered, and he holds grudges for a long, long time. He is also gifted with an incredible amount of patience, willing to wait years for his plans to come to fruition. He holds large contempt for non-human species, considering them inferior, fit for slavery.

He is also a distinguished scholar and intellectual, being particularly noted as a political theorist and collector of art. He is also incredibly gifted in knowledge of the liberal and creative arts, and is a very gifted linguist. He holds himself with an air of superiority, as he considers himself the epitome of all living beings; why would they not want to be like him - powerful, intelligent, and wise?

He is obsessive about discovering a method to make himself immortal. While he learned the secret that Darth Plagueis discovered to influence the midichlorians in sentient beings to extend or shorten their lives, Palpatine found himself unable to use the same sort of power, and while he uses his old master's theory, he cannot yet replicate his success, and that drive is quite intense.

Alter Ego: Palpatine, Chancellor Palpatine of the Galactic Republic, Emperor Palpatine of the Galactic Empire.
Power: Palpatine is a master of the Dark Side of the Force. Thus, his abilities range from brute force telekinesis (which can be used to move objects weighing up to a few tons over a short distance), to charged bursts of Force Lightning (a very short range attack, less than 20 meters, but also devastatingly destructive, able to kill a living being within minutes), to sensing the emotions and thoughts of others (which he can sense over a fairly long range, at least 3 kilometers). In addition, he can draw further upon the Force, and use it to create a large storm, seemingly of lightning, but much deadlier, which can devastate entire city blocks.

The result of this power coursing through him for decades has rendered his body seemingly frail and weak, decaying it from the use of the Dark Side. He appears ancient, with pale, wrinkled skin, and sunken yellow eyes, his teeth yellow and decayed, and he is forced to walk with a cane.

Community Post Sample: It seems as if I have inadvertently ended up here. I'm still not sure of my surroundings...or anything, really. Then again, I only really know about where I'm from - politicians are like that, and I suppose I had a decent career for myself back where I was from. However, spending all my time on that has left me horrendously unprepared for this...situation.

Now if this place is anything like my own, then I know that you most likely have an inherent distrust for politicians (with good reason; I know many who lied and cheated their way into positions of power that they were unfit for), but I hope I can appeal to your sense of charity. I'm an old man, lost far from home, and if anyone would be so kind as to give me a little assistance, I'm sure I can repay the favor eventually - I'm a man of my word (as hard as that is to believe coming from one in my profession).

And I hope you don't mind me asking, but...did I really see someone flying? Remarkable...I am rather curious about the type of people who live here as well. Any help that you could assist me with, I would be most grateful for.

Third Person: Palpatine sat in his favorite chair in this establishment that he had taken over shortly after his arrival in this ...different place. He wasn't sure entirely how he had arrived here, but that was beside the point. The real point was that all of his hard work; all of his clever manipulation of the Galactic Senate for the past twenty years had seemingly gone to waste. He had reached the pinnacle of his success - he had conquered the entire galaxy. And now, somehow, he had been transported here. He didn't even know where here was.

It wouldn't matter, however. He laughed quietly to himself, his face twisted, the scars and wrinkles and his yellow eyes would seem dangerous, if there was anyone else around to see it. As angered as he was at being pulled away from his prize, Palpatine was a patient man. He would take over this world as well - no matter how long it took. From his observations so far, the people were weak-minded fools, easily manipulated and used. He grimaced as he stood up, reaching for his cane. Darth Sidious would rule this world as well; not because he had to, but because he could. Because it was what he did. And anyone who stood in his way would be destroyed, as the Jedi had.
